Seminarians and Students Concentration at Transform 2015

Calling all students (and recent graduates). You’re invited to participate in the Seminarian and Student Concentration at this year’s National Gathering. This is free of charge, and designed as an opportunity for you to engage with others studying, preparing for and continuing in ministry. We will gather a few times over meals to discuss what it means to be a student and serving the world around us. Details are below. You are invited to do some or all of the events below. To join the concentration, you can email me at scott@transformnetwork.org, or let us know when you check-in on Thursday night or Friday morning. Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Friday, April 24:
Local Neighborhood Issues Lunchtime Conversation. 11:45am – 1:15pm. Mount Vernon Place UMC/Wesley Seminary Downtown.
You’re invited to join us for a lunchtime conversation on issues specific to the local D.C. area and the neighborhood in which we are gathering. The topics will be Homelessness and Human Sex Trafficking, two issues that are real in the downtown neighborhood and across the city and country. The first 15 people to RSVP in advance (by emailing Scott Bostic by 7pm on Wednesday night) will get a FREE lunch from Lawson’s Grill.

Seminarians and Students Dinner on Service in Seminary. 5:30-7:15pm. Location TBA. Meet at Mount Vernon Place UMC Fellowship Hall.
That night we will have a dinner at a local restaurant (TBA), and gather around a table to fellowship, and talk a bit about some of the unique challenges and opportunities of being a student and being in ministry at the same time. We will meet at 5:30pm in the foyer outside the Fellowship Hall of Mount Vernon Place UMC, and head over there together. This meal is free for everyone who attends (food only). We just need to know you’re coming so please RSVP(by emailing Scott Bostic), or let us know when you check-in.

Saturday, April 25:
Neighborhood Walk. 7:45 – 8:50am. Meet at Mount Vernon Place UMC Fellowship Hall.
In the morning we will gather at 7:45am to go on a walk around the neighborhood to better understand the community in which we are gathering, some of the history, and the places where the current issues and opportunities may be found. We will meet at Mount Vernon Place UMC, get some coffee or tea, and head out on our walk. We will be back by 8:50am, in time for the start of the main session at 9am.

Educational Privilege Workshop. 3:30 – 5pm. Location TBA.
We all have various forms of privilege that we bring into ministry. One that all seminary graduates share in common is educational privilege. In this workshop we will discuss faithful, missionally oriented ways of entering into ministry with our educational privilege in mind.

Closing Dinner and Conversation. 7PM. Meet on the front steps of Asbury UMC after worship.
We will gather one last time for dinner at a local restaurant (TBD) to discuss what has happened, our experience together, and how we want to support one another going forward. This meal is open to all (not just students), and we hope will be a great time to connect one last time with people who share your passions or experiences.
